NEW LILY PADS!

Have any residents noticed the new addition to our lake? We now have LILY PADS! We are excited and are curious where they came from. A little research was done... see below!

American Lotus(Nelumbo lutea)
The American lotus is and emersed or free-floating plant found in Florida’s muddy and shallow waters up to six feet deep. The easy-to-spot plant features very large yellow flowers that grow up to six inches wide on a long, stiff stalk. Leaves are circular and lack the radial “pie-piece” shaped cut of the water lily.

This plant has a large tuber that is used as a food source. This may be the plant called "macoupin" in Miami-Illinois. The seed is also edible and is known as "alligator corn".[4]
It is widely planted in ponds for its foliage and flowers. American Lotus spreads via creeping rhizomes and seeds. This species has been crossed with N. nucifera to create many hybrids. Seeds may be propagated by scarifying the pointed tip of the seed with a file then soaking in water. Propagation is also possible by division of established plants.

Fun fact for KIDS!

Disney's character Princess Tiana (Disney) wears as her iconic princess dress, a gown fashioned from a yellow Nelumbo lutea.

Tiana is a fictional main character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures' 49th animated feature film The Princess and the Frog (2009)

Pretty cool, her dress is the same flower that is growing in our lake!

PLEASE TURN IRRIGATION OFF
DURING THE RAINY SEASONS
***
Friendly reminder that Irrigation is the responsibility of the homeowner. We receive many complaints that the sprinkler heads are damaged by the landscapers, however if your irrigation is not being maintained they will advise Management they were broken due to lack of maintenance. If you are not maintaining the irrigation, and the sprinkler heads are not retracting after they go off, the landscaper will not be responsible. Please ensure you are maintaining your irrigation.
